A Diagnostic for Sellers Just Taught Me Something About Finding the Right Clients
A few weeks after launching the Saleability Diagnostic to help business owners get ready to sell, I picked up a different kind of work: taking a business's ideal client profile and working out who on that list is genuinely worth targeting. Here is a quick video on where the last few weeks have actually taken this, and the idea behind it.
Watch on YouTube.
Where it started
The diagnostic was built for one job: give an owner a clear, prioritised read on how ready their business is to sell, or to run without them. The owners it was built for did exactly that, getting in touch to book it in.
Where it's gone
Alongside that, a business came looking for something different: it already had an ideal client profile, the description of who it wanted to work with, but no reliable way of turning that description into an actual list of who to approach. That is a different job to the diagnostic, but the same underlying discipline, knowing a business clearly enough to be precise about it, has stayed constant either way.
What's changed as a result
More market research. Turning a client profile into a real, workable list has meant going deeper into how a business's own criteria actually apply to the market it's chasing.
A proper qualification system. Rather than working through a list on gut feel, the piece now being built is a way of scoring who's genuinely worth the time, so effort goes where it counts.
The thread running through both halves is the same one PeakRatio was built on: a business that knows itself clearly enough to be ready for a buyer also knows itself clearly enough to know exactly who its own clients should be.
